The best places for a Nerf birthday party in the OKC metro

5 min read · Oklahoma City

Kinetic Command is a mobile Nerf party rental, so we come to your spot instead of you coming to an arena. That freedom is great and slightly paralyzing. These are the venue types we set up in most often across Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Moore, Yukon and Mustang, and what each one is like in practice.

Your own back yard

Cheapest, easiest and by far the most common. No reservation, no time limit, and the bathroom and cake are already there.

Watch for: sprinkler heads, dog territory, and neighbors close enough that a 7:00pm party should stay at conversational volume. Fenced yards are ideal because they keep stray darts and stray toddlers where they belong.

Church fellowship halls and gyms

Our favorite indoor option in the metro. Hard floors, high ceilings, air conditioning in August, and heating in February. Many congregations rent theirs out cheaply to members.

Watch for: stage equipment and pianos that need covering, and a rule about street shoes on the gym floor. Ask about the ceiling height if you want the Rival blasters in play.

Community centers and neighborhood clubhouses

Plenty of OKC-area HOAs have a clubhouse with a large multipurpose room that costs little or nothing for residents. Reservation systems vary, so ask early — birthday season books out.

Watch for: furniture you have to move yourself, and a hard end time that includes your cleanup.

City and metro park pavilions

Covered pavilions give you shade, tables and a hose-down surface. Reservable pavilions exist across the Oklahoma City parks system and in Edmond, Norman and Moore.

Watch for: shared space with the public, no walls to stop darts on windy days, and reservations that need to go in weeks ahead for weekend slots.

Driveways, cul-de-sacs and warehouse space

A closed cul-de-sac makes a genuinely excellent arena, as long as your neighbors are in on it. Empty office or warehouse space is our secret favorite for teen and adult events — huge, indoors, and nothing to break.

Watch for: traffic, and any surface with loose gravel, which is rough on diving knees.

How to choose in one minute

Under 12 players, mild weather, fenced yard? Book your own yard. July or January? Book something indoors with climate control. Twenty-plus players or a school or fundraiser event? Book a gym.

Tell us the space in your booking notes and we design the arena layout around it before we arrive.
